Canticum turns 30 in 2025! Join us for a special year of glorious music as we celebrate this significant anniversary.

Music for Holy Week - Fredrik Sixten, "Stabat Mater"
Wednesday 16 April, 7.30pm
Good Friday 18 April, 5.30pm
Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 369 Given Terrace, Paddington

Tickets are $55 / $45 conc / $15 under 18.

Canticum Chamber Choir and Orchestra, with conductor Emily Cox AM, and soloists present the Australian premiere of a brand new choral work by Swedish composer Fredrik Sixten in our annual "Music for Holy Week" series.

The Stabat Mater portrays Mary at the foot of the cross experiencing her son's crucifixion - an extraordinary depiction of a mother’s suffering. Sixten, acclaimed world-wide as a truly significant composer of our time, creates a pathos-filled setting, masterfully balancing melody, dissonance and expressivity to produce a powerful, moving work. Canticum is proud to present this outstanding new contribution to contemporary sacred music for the first time in Australia.
Pärt / Bach
Sunday 1 June, 2.00pm
St John's Cathedral, Ann Street, Brisbane

Tickets through 4MBS
$60 / $50 concession / $25 student / under 12 free

Arvo Pärt’s luminous and majestic Te Deum for choir and orchestra is framed by jubilant motets by J S Bach, including Singet dem Herrn BWV 225. Arvo Pärt’s music, even in its minimalism, resonates strongly with the music of JS Bach despite the centuries that separate them. In this, Pärt’s 90th birthday year, the 40th anniversary of the Te Deum, and the 30th anniversary of the founding of this acclaimed ensemble, Canticum celebrates with these two composers close to its heart.
We are delighted to welcome Camerata - Queensland's Chamber Orchestra as our orchestra for the Te Deum.

Canticum is pleased to present this concert as part of the 4MBS Festival of Classics.
Sing the World
Enjoy a feast of uplifting, dramatic, and inspiring choral music from around the globe and through the ages. Canticum performs works by Lauridsen, Poulenc, Gibbons, Rautavaara and others, and features works by Brisbane-based composers Phillip Gearing, and Joseph Twist, with his recently-commissioned "Let me sing the world” written for us, a simple plea for peace in the world.
Join us in this, our joyful celebration of 30 years of music-making in Brisbane.
