2005 Concert Programme
Good Friday Musical Meditation
The Way of the Cross
Friday 25 March 6:00 pm
St John's Anglican Cathedral, Ann Street, Brisbane
Christopher Wrench, organist
Jason Barry-Smith, baritone
Canticum's 2005 Good Friday Musical Meditation will feature two works from the romantic period which resonate with immense pathos. The major work, Franz Liszt's Via Crucis (The Fourteen Stations of the Cross) for choir, soloists and organ, describes through music the journey of Christ carrying the cross. Liszt completed the work in 1878 but it remained unpublished and unperformed in his lieftime, only to have its first performance in Budapest on Good Friday in 1929. Our Good Friday Meditation will also include the Stabat Mater of Josef Rheinberger, a work of intense beauty and emotion. As always, Canticum is delighted to work with associate artist, organist Christopher Wrench, in this special musical event.

Canticum - A Guest Choir at the 7th World Symposium on Choral Music in Japan
Canticum Chamber Choir is very proud to have been selected as a guest performing choir at the 7th World Symposium on Choral Music to be held in Kyoto, Japan in 2005. This is not only a huge hounour for Canticum but also for Brisbane, Queensland and Australia. The Symposium is a project of the International Federation for Choral Music (IFCM), the choral art form's peak body. Canticum will perform two concerts at the Symposium and afterwards will travel to three cities in central Japan to perform with local choral associations. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the members of Canticum and will be an opportunity for inspiration and exchange of ideas through the universal language of music.
