From the arresting opening chorus to moments of tranquil reverence, Bach's St John Passion contains some of his greatest and most dramatic music. This is a major event in Queensland's musical calendar!

Good Friday Musical Meditation

Friday 6 April 6:00 pm
St John's Anglican Cathedral, Ann Street, Brisbane

For Good Friday, Canticum will perform works from three great periods of choral writing, all of which inspire great empathy and emotion. The concert will include a rare performance of the Lamentations by a master of Renaissance polyphony, Alonso Lobo, psalms by Otto Nicolai and his contemporary Felix Mendelssohn, and an arresting work from our time by Norwegian composer Knut Nystedt. Join Canticum for this much anticipated part of Brisbane's annual concert calendar.

Humanity, love, and the varied experiences of life are celebrated with There is Sweet Music. Canticum pays tribute to the 150th birthday of Elgar and the 50th anniversary of Sibelius' death, and will also perform a dramatic song cycle by the great contemporary composer Einojuhani Rautavaara. The afternoon serenade will conclude with the Brahms' lilting and joyful Liebeslieder Waltzer, accompanied by pianists Christopher Wrench and Therese Milanovic. After the concert, waltz onto the lawns to enjoy refreshments at sunset, overlooking Brisbane!

Stanthorpe Concert

Canticum hits the road and takes a trip to a beautiful part of South-East Queensland, to Stanthorpe. There, Canticum will perform at Robert Channon Winery as part of its 2007 concert series. Repertoire will include works from its second subscription concert There is Sweet Music.

Canticum Chamber Choir leads a traditional service of Christmas lessons and carols. A reflective time out from the hectic pre-Christmas rush, to listen, be inspired, and sing your favourite carols.
Service length approx. 1 hour; music by Poulenc, Howells, Lassus, Sweelinck and others.
